Uttar Pradesh : Police and truck drivers clashed in Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh on Monday following the death of a truck driver, who was allegedly beaten to death by a RTO at a check post on National Highway 2.
The family of the dead truck driver, identified as Ashwini Kumar Gupta, claims that he was beaten to death after he refused to pay bribe to the RTO.
SP Chandauli Shalabh Mathur said, “Ashwini Kumar Gupta has died and his son has filed an FIR. Some people from the RTO are involved in the incident. The investigations are being conducted.”
“It’s premature to put the blame on the police or other side. Investigations are being conducted. Ashwini Kumar Gupta’s son has alleged that RTO officer allegedly asked for bribe,” added Mathur.
Mathur also maintained that the law and order situation was normal and traffic had been cleared.
However, police had to resort to lathicharge after a group of truck drivers started indulging in violent protests.
