Mangalore: A non-profit organization, GVK Reddy Institute, runs the emergency ambulance 108 services in Mangalore to Wenlock and other hospitals toll-free. It is the only emergency service provider in India, under Public Partnership, handling fire, police, and medical emergency call cases in city and state.
However, on September 27 afternoon and 28, people have to b3e doubly careful, not to call 108 Emergency, as health workers have called a boycott, to hold rallies throughout the state, making certain demands on Government of the day to look at them.
These health workers, strangely enough, have accused that nurses, drivers and caretakers working since 3 years, have not been rewarded by decent wages and fixed working hours, by higher authorities in spite of repeated appeals to them. They want a status of state Government employee and job security. So watch out on September 27 afternoon and 28!
