Udupi: At present now vehicles seeking registration and permit to run on Udupi roads, have to queue up on state Highway in Adi Udupi before RTO.
However, the RTO is likely to shift to a new office, with a driving track for licence-seekers soon.
The Udupi district Complex in the Manipal End Point is in its final stages now. The RTO will come up opposite this complex at a cost Rs.5crore with all modern facilities.
The new building will have a dome-like structure, with a mini hall inside. It has an area of 2984 sq.ft. Karnataka Housing Board is constructing new building since March 2011.
But the work will be completed by 2012 end. A driving track is not possible on a half acre land open at Land’s End, so only a twp wheeler track will be formed there, said RTO H.N.Ramesh on Monday here.
There are 2.06 lakh vehicles on Udupi roads, with cars 27,500 only. Revenue target is Rs.62 crores for 2011-12, of which Rs.24 crores are so far collected.
