Mangalore : One person died and three were injured in a blast in the crude storage tank under the third phase of MRPL development of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL), located at Kuttethur on Oct 18 Tuesday at 11:45 a.m.
The deceased is identified Munna Kumar of Orissa, who was employed as a welder was burnt when the cutting work was going inside the tank.
Reportedly the co-workers Jayappa and Arjun Maruthi Sabne, who took Rahim to hospital said that it is said that the incident occurred when the welding spark fell on the paint and caught fire.
Speaking in the Suratkal Police Station, A R Zhadke, site in charge said that it was not a blast but the fire was caught to the paint and Munna Kumar was died on the spot.
He also said that Munna Kumar’s father was present since he too he working here and was present when his body was taken to the hospital.
The workers around came to know about the incident when they saw the smoke coming from the top of the tank which was kept open, when the concerned officlas reach Munna was dead on the spot. While the other were taken Padmavathi Hospital and later shifted Rahim from Bidar to AJ Hospital since he was fully burnt and other two injured Uday Kumar from Gulbarga, and Pappu Mahotha from West Bengal were admitted to Fr. Muller Hospital.
So far FIR has not been filed and Mohammed Ashraf driver of the vehicle along with A R Zhadke was waiting for Suratkal SI to file the report.
