Mangalore: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), irked by unlimited, frequent and untimely power black-outs in Mangalore and coastal areas conducted a bold demonstration and agitation right under the nose of MESCOM office employees on Friday evening (October 28) at Suratkal, a satellite town of the port city here.
Vice-President Abubaker Kulai addressed the disconsolate gathering of power consumers in Suburbs and ridiculed a government that came to power on the false promise of giving a clean and pleasing form of administration to the citizens who voted for them and added that it was clean form of “Corruption and favouritism” to their own families that BJP gave so far. The policies pursed by BJP were clearly anti-people, which even naxalites would not adopt. The public distribution system in food grains, Kerosene oil, Cooking gas and such other daily needs had gone astray and the rampant corruption in ordinary materials and matters had gone so far unbridled in the last 3 years, from bad to worse day by day.
Abubaker challenged the local MLAs, ministers and MPs/BJP leaders at large to set aside all the amenities and services that they are getting and practice penance by eschewing public services for their selfish ends.
District leader Abdul Taleel Krishnapura in his following speech lashed out at the government department officials who practised corrupt ways in every section of public services. The top men have failed to control such corruption in public service departments in the coastal districts, he charged. He also urged MESCOM to take back the senseless power cuts on and often, on any day of the week, at any hour of the day or at dusk. When the BJP rulers cannot hold power supply in proper control during a long rainy season, how they can manage in 2012 by such mismanagement of coal, power, gas and food grains distribution, Jaleel asked. Several local SDPI leaders were present and actively participated in the public protest. A complaint was forwarded through Suratkal Mescom authorities to CM. The power officials stated in reply that a petroleum pipeline was being laid from Mangalore to CR Patna and until it is finished, no power problems could arise in D.K. / Udupi areas.
