Kaup: A statue of Lord Krishna would be erected at the famous tourist centre of St. Mary’s island on the beach to make it a religious as well as tourist paradise, across the waters near Malpe, said Dr. V.S. Acharya, minister in charge of Udupi district on Tuesday.
The statue is expected to be 120 feet tall and the cost of the project would be Rs 5 crores, he added. A grant has been released by the Government for the Lord Krishna icon establishment work.
A new jetty will be built at the island first and then the statue would be erected, the minister informed pressmen at Kunjaru giri-Pajak Kshetra on Tuesday(November 8)
At Malpe-Vadabhadeshwara, a statue of Saint Madhwacharya is likely to be erected, and the work would be completed before monsoon in 2012, he hoped.
A Theme Park of Madhwa’s miracles will be also built in Pajaka where he was born. The park will be decorated with light and sound arrangements to attract visitors.
At Kunjarugiri, the temple area will be beautified with parks, roads and plants.
The Udupi district offices complex at Land’s End would be inaugurated by end of this month, at a cost of Rs 30crores Dr. Acharya indicated Udupi MLA, DC, ZP chief, TP Chairman and PWD engineer and others were present.
