Moodubidri: The 3 day annual ‘Nudi-siri’ festival to popularize Kannada as a language of great resources, history and command in literature, had a tremendous start on November 11 here, with a colourful cultural procession at 10AM forming at the entrance of Vidyagiri, vending its way through the town, carrying research scholar Dr.M.M. Kalburgi and man of letters, Dr. Baragur Ramachandrappa in a chariot to the Ratnakara Varni stage of Pandit Bheemsen Joshi hall at Alva’s seat of education, Vidya hills.
The theme of the entire event was “Kannada mind-conflict and harmony” and the show was inaugurated with much fan fare and thrills.
Speaking on the inaugural bright session, Baraguru sounded a sad note that Kannada was in the fists of a few powerful and rich persons who did not know its worth, as those genuinely concerned with the language and its culture had been side-tracked, which is a serious challenge to be tackled strongly.
He was surprised but happy to find that Tulu-speaking people here were having such a large share of the Kannada mind, organising functions and distributing their love for Kannada among thousands of interested people.
This was a matter of harmony, as Tulu crowds gathered to celebrate Kannada all over the coast in familiar affection. The Kannada mind has to extend crossing the limits of conflicts to reach larger spheres of national life to create harmony there, he said.
In spite of globalization, Kannada trend should advance in India, as Kannadigas do not close their doors to anyone, nor look down at other cultures, but absorb them in a continuous formation of a new Indian culture, the inaugurator declared.
He referred to many regional /local languages existing in coastal districts and on hilss, but they all belonged to Karnataka and Kannadigas.
Dr.Kalburgi in his presidential speech, wanted the imported (English) language to supplement our needs and complement our culture, but never be a threat to our existence as pure Kannadigas, with a classical language and script and meritorious achievement in a long history. The Kannada culture has the strength to stand up to any other similar culture and can get over problems is observed.
Dr.Mohan Alva welcomed the people and also delivered the keynote address in Kannada on the various aspects of the Kannada mind and its harmonious depths as in a flowing river.
Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar K., MLA Abhaychandra Jain, Ms.Jayashree Amarnath Shetty and others were present. Hundreds of beautiful women of D.K/Udupi districts participated in a long cultural parade, in full bloom and in born excellence of spirits.
