Bangalore : The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and his family in connection to alleged irregularities in denotification of government lands.
Justice H. Billappa accepted bail applications of Yeddyurappa, his two sons B.Y. Raghavendra and B.Y. Vijayendra, and his son-in-law R.N. Sohan Kumar against Rs. 2 lakh bond and two securities of the same amount.
Getting bail in both land cases, Yeddyurappa walked out of jail on Nov 8 evening.
Yeddyurappa was released from Bangalore’s Central Prison after 25 days.
The Karnataka High Court on Nov 8 granted bail to Yeddyurappa in the second case.
Earlier, he was granted bail on Nov 3 in one of the two cases lodged against him but he could not leave the prison on Nov 4 as the Karnataka High Court adjourned his bail hearing in the second case till Nov 8.
The 68-year-old politician was accused of giving away land to family members at throwaway prices during his tenure as Chief Minister.
On Nov 3, the court granted conditional bail to Yeddyurappa, who has been in prison for almost a month, in the case of land denotification.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, who had been first arrested on Oct 15, had been sent to judicial custody till Oct 22 earlier by a special Lokayukta court earlier.
Yeddyurappa was implicated in a land denotification case in Bangalore that had allegedly favoured his associates and family.
Yeddyurappa had earlier skipped attending the court in the case.
The powerful south-Indian leader on July 31 had resigned as the Chief Minister of Karnataka after he was indicted by the Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hedge in the illegal mining report.
Yeddyurappa and his family members were named by Karnataka Lokayukta N Santosh Hegde in what he called Rs 16,000 core illegal mining scam.
