Devadigas form a progressive community which originally hails from the land of Lord Parashurama. This land stretches between Karwar, a town in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, and Kasaragod, currently a district of Kerala on the west coast of India.
Traditionally, Devadigas were known for their sincere service in Hindu temples and are predominately known for playing classical musical instruments as a service to God. Devadigas have now evolved over time and are now scattered across the globe and have been very successful in their various professions and fields of entrepreneurship.
The community has given eminent personalities to the society like great political leaders of national stature, thinkers and intellectuals, bankers, surgeons, education scholars, musicians, teachers, writers, engineers, actors, artists and entrepreneurs. Devadigas are a small, close-knit community marching towards socio-economic progress, and at the same time striving to maintain their individuality, identity, culture, traditions, values and language.
The original site was founded by one of the Devadiga community’s visionaries and achievers, B G Mohandas, in Dubai in 2000. It was designed mainly to connect the various community people and bring them together by means of using the latest information technology (IT). He has promoted many such initiatives like www.gulfvarthe.com, www.kollur.com etc and currently runs the highly popular sitewww.Gulfkannadiga.com, a mirror to Karnataka in the Gulf.
Mohandas’ vision is to motivate and educate the community’s youth to work towards the progress of the Devadiga community.
