Mangalore: About 200 special ability kids with various physical disabilities, or mental retardment, took part in DK Dt. Level special sports and games competitions, set in a renovated Mangala “new look” stadium on Wednesday, near MCC buildings in city.
It was a 2-day long event, due to conclude on Thursday evening, organised by Bharat special Olympics to mark the world Disability Day-2011 on December 7.
The disabled children took part enthusiastically in many running races, wheel-chair races, walking with a stick, ball in the bucket, shot-put, and even, Javelin throw.
The event was inaugurated by B. Nagraja Shetty, a former minister, and now, Chairman of Coastal Development Authority(CDA). Lion P. Kishore Rao presided at at the venue.
Moses Jayashekhar, DDPI, Mangalore, N. Parshwanath, DYWO and Ms. A.Shankuntala, DD-W/C Welfare attended the inaugural session.
Winners are given trophies and all participants in the show get their certificates on the valedictory evening.
