Mangalore: Weightlifters from Karnataka in Japan for Asian Power Lifting Championship held in Kobe city from Dec 5 to 9, brought glory to India on return, by winning 4 gold, 9 silver, and bronze 5 (in all 18 medals), at the international even. Satish K. Kudroli was the coach of Indian team.

Vinutha and Neha, both students of SDM College Ujire, won 4 silver and 2 bronze medals. M. Maheshwaraiah did extremely well to annex 4 medals, three of them gold and one silver. The other winners were, Prasad Shetty (1 gold 2 bronze), Vinay Kanchan (3 silver, 1 bronze) and Anad N (1 Silver only) in a Senior category.

It may be noted that Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade had financed the trip for Vinutha and Neha to Japan, by offering Rs. 2.40 lakhs. They brought laurels to the SDM College, Ujire with 6 medals out of 18.
