Mangalore, December 25: Vice Chancellor Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy inaugurated the national-level art camp ‘Drishti-Srishti’ organised by Rani Abbakka Tulu Study Centre at Sanchayagiri on December 24, Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he aplluaded the work of Centre and said that Mangalore University will always support the activities carried out by Rani Abbakka Tulu Study Centre at Sanchayagiri in B C Road
He said that government sanctions the annual grant to the Tulu Study Chair for organising various programmes including seminars, conferences and talks. Further University will bear the expenses, if Abbakka Study Centre comes forward to organise programmes in association with the Tulu Study Chair.
Participating as the chief guest Kannada film director and Karnataka Film Academy President T S Nagabharana briefed the importance of understanding history.
He also said that most of the people live with upcoming dreams and it is not possible to do so by forgetting our past. The life of particular community becomes important when it is in the stage of extinct.
Prof Thukaram Poojary, delivered the introductory remark on the occasion.
Around 27 artists from across the nation including V T Kale from Bellary, Vasudeo Kamath from Mumbai, K N Ramachandran from Bangalore and others will paint the life and times of Rani Abbakka for the next five days.
The paintings will be exhibited at the Gallery in the Centre on December 28.
