Mangalore: Renuka wants to study, seeks help of labour officials a couple of months back, but the state education department made no efforts to get her back to school.
She came to Mangalore with her parents, looking for a job, and her father secured a job in Padil nursery. But Renuka was employed in the residence of Palaiah, DCF, on a monthly salary of Rs. 600, with work from 9 AM to 2 PM (part-time).
She was in tears, when senior labour inspector US Deshpande, HP Jagannath, and Krishnamma of the child Development Project inspected Palaiah’s home on Tuesday morning, and rescued her on a tip-off from the media.
Renuka wanted to study further, but had to work since a month as a domestic help. The Labour Department officials, once they get the age proof from government Wenlock Hospital, hope to put her back in a school.
