Udupi: DR. V.S. Acharya, a senior minister in Gowda cabinet with Muzrai portfolio and Udupi district under his thumb was in hot waters as an enemy of local people enraged at UPCL plant, and due to problems created by a coal-bused power technology in Nandikur and surrounding villages.
He had to face the wrath of dissatisfied groups, during his visit to Nandikur temple to meet Pejawar Swamiji, and dissuade him from a 3-day fast on the second day on January 10, Tuesday.
Pejawar seer talked to him in Camera for an hour and broke his fast but held on to his Dharna on the issue.
When Dr. Acharya came out, he was gheraoed by angry crowds shouting adverse sogans. The media separated him from the crowds.
Crowds pushed the reporters around and abused the minister. Pejawar see intervened to speak to Lalaji Mendon (Kaup MLA) and Palimaru Mutt seer, who had supported the hecklers and protestors.
When it was known that UPCL plant would not be closed people got anxious in re-double anger. Raitha Sangha and Jana Jagrithi Samithi leaders butted in, to challenge Dr. Acharya to live in Nandikur an enjoy the scenery, leaving his Udupi home for a neighbourhood of UPCL.
Dr. Acharay escaped through the backdoor under a police escort.
