Mangalore: The scene at Padua composite Padua College was one of Panic and emergency, not of a lecture going on in a class room. The campus at Nanthoor was covered by a national level accident of fire and evacuation drill that thrilled the students and onlookers alike, on Saturday, January21 afternoon.
The busy programme of action was inaugurated by Fr. Antony Serrao, Bendur Priest and Correspondent of Padua educational institutions.
He told the expectant gathering that disaster could happen anytime without warning, and people panic at such times without warning, and people panic at such times without preparedness. The DK district administration was rendering unceasing service to local society, by training people how to face disasters.
While averting an accidental disaster at home, or in the neighbourhood, fire and police services must be called out.
The parents should teach their children how to use disaster reduction techniques. Presence of mind is very necessary, to reduce losses and save lives in an imminent disaster, he explained.
By a demonstration of this kind(drill),mass awareness is created to know about disaster management, he added.
Catholic Education Board secretary Fr.Wilson D’souza also spoke. Local corportor Roopa Bangera, fire officer Basavanna, Fr. M. Santhumayor, Bendur Parish official R. Walder, Agnel Rodrigues of Coastal Times, and others were present. A demonstration was held of a disaster and its management at the end.
