Kasaragod: Several religious leaders and devotees of Kanipura Gopalkrishna Kshetra, which is threatened by road widening in a 120km. long national highway stretch, took out a protest procession on Tuesday in town(January 24), and picketed the DC’s office here.
Udupi Kaniyoor Mutt Swamiji Vidya Vallabha Tirtha led the procession by inaugurating it. The march started at Anangur Sharada Bhajana Mandira and culminated at Vidyanagar in Kasaragod.
Advocate N. Subbaiah Rai, Chairman of Temple Protection action Committee and chief secretary Shyama Nadig Kumble, were given ochre flags by the Udupi Kaniyoor Swami.
Protestors alleged that the widening of NH would destroy the Kshetra, and such a heinous act was Unacceptable to devotees.
They submitted a memorandum to the DC at and Kondevoor Maths delivered benedictory speeches on the critical occasion.
MLA Abdul Razaq, Delampady B. Tantri, Bela church priest Vincent D’Souza, Kumble church priest and Jamaath (Muslim) Committee members were present.
