Mangalore: If Muslim girls were Burkha and black dress to cover their young bodies from greedy attention, can Christian girls be trailing? In all churches, women and girls are ordered by priests to have dress code that prohibits body language and barren limbs.
As churches are religious centres of assembly for worship of God, the devotees should not be distracted by fashionable dresses, hence obscene and uncivilized kind of dresses have been tabooed in churches, said the parish priests defending the Fatwah.
Women and Children’s Welfare minister C.C. Patil had recently frowned upon dresses that did not cover, but bared the female bodies for public view, as unhelpful.
In that wake, Mangalorean churches have advised younges female devotees attending places of worship, to follow a decent dress code, and not to succumb to film fashions. The dress code may be observed from this Sunday itself, by all exposing teen-aged females attending prayers in all churches.
