Mangalore : Today the medical practitioners don’t go to rural areas for medical practice and research at all, hence the rural areas still remain under developed, said Justice Santhosh Hegde.
He was speaking after inaugurating the seminar titled ‘Medicine Update -2012’ organized by the Department of Medicine and Medical Specialties of Father Muller Medical College as a part of 20 year of Post Graduation Medical Education celebration at Decennial Hall on Feb 3, Friday.
He also said that, if there are buildings in rural areas, there are no doctors and if there are doctors, there will be no building; hence the people of rural areas could not get proper treatment.
Knowledge comes from everyday research and such seminars are good for doctors, who become doctors by themselves. The research would help the doctors who don’t have access to the knowledge and bring changes in the treatment for the improvement of the patients. Sometimes it is knowledge of doctors that saves lives of people.
He said that today there is no profession free from corruption. The greed over need has spread so much that it leads people to nowhere. People must think that one goes for more money but at what cost, a legitimately earn money is not a product of sin, he said.
Delivering the key note address, Dr Anil D’Cruz, director of Tata Memorial Cancer Institute said that all type of cancer are treated differently and the doctors think that they are doing the good work, but they must think what is best for the patient.
The best practice requires the combination of good knowledge with research background and expertise. Challenging dogma is very important for medical profession, he said.
