Udupi: the senior congress leader from Karkala and present Union Minister of corporate Affairs (representing chikkaballpur in Parliament), frowned upon the Zouk-2012 Tourism Festival organised in St. Mary island off Malpe for 3 days since February 4 by Udupi district administration and blessed by BJP bigwigs in Karnataka in the name of promoting tourism.
He told on Sunday that St. Mary’s was in private passion but was brought under his tenure as CM in state control to promote tourism as the island had great potential, but not the way BJP thought about it last week.
It was a ‘happy’ culture promoted by BJP leaders, with Udupi DC in the fore front and some rich parties busying tickets to enjoy hippy activities in the guise of tourists. There was no room to promote foreign culture in Udupi he roared. Tourism cannot function beyond the limits of local traditions and religious decency in Udupi Govt. he dictated.
He was also a CM and tourism minister (1992-94), but did not allow foreign culture or western music/dance as Indian hospitality-let there be a set policy by state as to what it should do in Tourism M.V. Moily ruled.
