Udupi: A regional transport office in Udupi, with a well equipped bus-stand in Dr. V.S. Acharya’s name, are two possibilities that could happen in Udupi town, and a dream being realised of the departed great soul, as promised by R. Ashok, Transport and Home minister of Karnataka, during his talk on Thursday, February 16, 2012 with media persons.
He visited the Udupi district office complex at Rajathadri, in Manipal Land’s End, and regional transport office.
He reached here on the night of February 15, and visited Dr. Acharya’s home to console the bereaved family.
Minister Ashok hailed colleague Dr. Acharya’s efforts to bring a new identity to BJP, when all was lost. He was the first BJP chairman of a Town Council in whole of South India, and served BJP in many ways single-mindedly, for 4 decades, without breaks.
He was a gentleman among quarrelling /fighting politicians of the day. He knew BJP’s concepts in and out.
R. Ashok said he had introduced Volvo buses in the state between various destination/ starting points. He hoped more such buses between Udupi and Kasaragod to run shortly.
On St. Mary’s merry show, he ruled that use of drugs had not been allowed for anyone there. The Government had nodded to a tourist festival, nothing else.
Further clarification would come on Friday at the airport conference hall, he added. KSRTC buses were on international standards, he revealed, with an image change. He would change the police system also by modernisation. Ashok was accompanied by Udupi MLA, DC and SP on his visits.
