Gokarana: Thousand of Lord Shiva devotees pulled the huge lovely Car, with shouts of ‘Har Har Mahadeva’, during Maha Shivaratri observance, when keep a vigil night long at this southern Gaya.
The tall Car was decorated with many red and white flags fluttering in the breeze, flower garlands, and vegetables or Coconuts (also arecanuts) tied in bunches to the edges of the huge car, pulled by strong ropes with God’s images in the car.
Local Hindus and foreign participants took part in pulling the car of Sri Mahabaleswara Murthy, on a night when Shiva killed Andakasura in Falguna Shuddha Pratipade (Muhurta).
The car is constructed as per scientific ways, prescribed in ancient books of sculpture. It has six wheels that turn in circles.
The day of penance, purity and devotion to lord Shiva, ended with an (Wild-animals hunting) expedition (in spiritual terms), and food Several to devils (Bhootha-bail).
On Thursday, there is bath (Okuli) as a form of relaxation from previous strains all day.
Coconuts were distributed to local dignitaries and donors, before the huge car was pulled on a determined path, to be broken against the chariot wheels by devotees, along with chief priest of the day also breaking a coconut to appease gods.
