New Delhi: 25 dignitaries and achievers as well, in various fields of incessant career activities received the prestigious S.R. Jindal awards on Thursday, in the Capital city at the Durbar Hall of Taj Palace hotel.
It was a special moving occasion for Karnataka, as there were some 4 awardees or relatives in the gathering, for distinguished services in social uplift.
Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade and Justice(retired Lokayukta)Nitte Santosh Hegde were among the award-winners in social service.
The awards worth Rs one crore, with a citation and memento, were conferred by Ravishankar Guruji of Art of Living, hailing from Bangalore.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. D.V. Heggade said that it was an honour to his ancestors and present traditions. He announced that the money would be spent on soldiers upliftment, and on education of their children, safeguarded by a Trust for the purpose.
In the same function, anti-corruption(Lokpal bill) crusader Annasaheb Hazare was honoured with an award for Rs 25 lakhs.
Among other winners, were relatives of Sandeep Unnikrishnan of Bangalore, who died in a battle against terrorists in Mumbai in recent years, and those of Manjunath Sanmugam of Kolar, who died of bullet wounds from Oil Mafia for exposing corrupt deals in Indian Oil Co., both these post-humously, honoured by S.R. Jindal Trust.
