Mangalore: At a press conference held by Health care Global Enterprises, a specialist in Cancer-care in city, Dr. Pramod Chander spoke about new trends in “Ortho Oncology”, in forming that great advancement were made in treating bone Cancer disease.
Where as at one time, limbs were amputated for many patients, today 90% of such cases are treated with limb-saving surgical attempts followed by bodily reconstruction to save patient with a limb.
When Cancerous tumor is first-identified, the medical aim is to save the limb and patient both, preserving physical functions.
Limb saved can improve life-length of the patient, with quality of life. The patient so relived, can per form his basic activities.
The overall survival rate of bone cancer patients is 60 to 70% with recent medical advancements. A multi-disciplinary team approach was needed to preserve limes, when diatonic advice is for amputation. Health care Global was the only hospital in Karnataka to perform Biological reconstruction, using a massive don or bone against Ewings sarcoma disease Chandra said.
