Mangalore: No male Corporator can become Mayor when present Mayor Praveen .K Aanchan retires on February 29. Three men and a women have been mayors. Now it is time for a women from Back ward class (A) Category, to be a Mayor.
There are 18 Women in Mangalore city Corporation (MCC) but all are not backward. Rajani Dugganna, and K. Revathi, disqualify themselves as candidates, for various obvious reasons of being in power.
It all adds upto unwanted and undeserving candidates among three castes being considered for Mayor’s post hook or crook now.
Then, there is no Krishna Palemar to poke his nose in what is essentially, elected city corporations, issue this time, as he is suspended as MLA and not a minister to meddle in city BJP affairs anymore. He won’t be brought back.
Surekha .S, (Central Market) from Ganiga (Oilmen) caste, Shantha R (Panjimogaru) from Shettigar caste, and Roopa D. Bangera (Kadri north) of Kumbara (Potter) caste are in the fray. It is the last term of one year for any BJP Mayor (ess).
