New Delhi: The Central Government has decided to bring a bill that will effectively check all lawless activities going on in schools or colleges, in the name of various collections of donations and extra charges. The Bill will also apply to Junior Colleges.
Such a bill is waiting for the consent of Parliament. It has provisions to prosecute all erring managements of schools, that do not follow “Private schools recognition : bye-laws”, and walk an unlawful path.
The fines may range from Rs50,000 to Rs5 lakhs, and prison sentence for the guilty will be from 1 month to maximum 3 years for schools/college administrators.
A 22 member committee under HRD minister Purandeshwari’s leadership has been formed, to cut the wings of lawless educationists. Who make money by any excuse available to them on books, uniforms, fees, and false ads.
There are 18 lakh schools in India, of which 37% are in private management.
All of them have to be brought round to a disciplinary way of functioning. Or they may lose recognition.
