Mangalore : Anwar Ibrahim former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and present de facto leader of People’s Justice Party said that he always believe in the country to country relationship.
He was speaking at the press meet held at Hotel Gateway on March 1, Thursday. He was in city to attend the conference organized by Muslim Religious Committee and to promote religion.
He said that last month he had participated in a conference titles ‘politics and Conscience’ invited by Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Rajmohan Gandhi. He said that he want a government without corruption.
He said that he expects the Hindu friends to know the importance of Muslim religion, as he knows the Hindu religion. We must share the thoughts and feeling of the community.
Speaking about the media in Malaysia, he said that Malaysia has lack of democracy and do not have free media and this is really ridiculous. The country provides license to only media owned by riling party and government and no private channels get license to function. He also said that he has been politically interviewed by media except the television media. Judiciary has no independence there, he informed.
Speaking about his rule, he said that when he was a deputy Prime Minister in 1990, the country was in number one position in market capital, foreign direct investment and others, but now we have lost it with Thailand and now it is better than Burma and that is satisfactory.
The country treats poor or under class people as slaves or coolie’s, but they must also be treated as humans. Exploitation of men by men must be stopped and politicians are last people who are really to mean it. Even in India, though it has free media and internet, they have limitation for penetration. He said that one may success for sme year with using all the power but ultimately there will be some rejection.
Commenting on Indian politics, he said that he respects Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and he must bring some changes to the country and give clear programmes for the citizens and fight against corruption.
