New Delhi: Remember an earlier Beary language film wining any award? No. A film in Kannada on a Muslim Women (Beary) portrayed by Tara had won the national award.
This year a full length feature film simply named ‘Byari’, secured first prize at national levels along with a Marathi film.
Suveeran directed the award-winner in its original Beary language a mixture of Tulu and Malayalam or Urdu spoken on border area of Kerala and Karnataka coats.
It was a debut film and topped the show. This film was released on 9th June 2011 tracking the sorry plights of Beary women in DK district socially and economically due to Talaq and dowry demands.
Byari shared the honors with ‘Devool’ (temple) in Marathi made by Umesh Kulkarni.
Director Suveeran talking top press on wining the top most awards stated that he had done painful research while writing the screenplay. He was a theater man, who entered film line carefully as narrations were so different on stage and in camera work.
There were 15 to 20 artistes to handle. Altaf Hussein produced the film on a budget of Rs 70 lakhs. It was shot in Kerala and DK, on several locations and won rave reviews.
