Mangalore : Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, in collaboration with the district department of women and child development, District Lawyers’ Guild, taluk Stri Shakti groups association and Karnataka women’s organization cell Bangalore organized the international women’s day at town hall on March 8.
ZP president K T Shailaja Bhat inaugurated the event and said that women must be educated to develop the society. A women has to play the role of a mother, teacher, a politician or in any other field and it is necessary to recognize her work and respect her.
The growing literacy and financial independence makes women feel more empowered today to assert their right to a life with reputation.
District chief judicial magistrate R V Patil, said that Constitution has provided every facility to the women, like widow remarriage, ban on child marriage and equal rights in the ancestral property and women must have power to encourage them.
ZP vice president Dhanalaxmi Janardhana released the book “Garbha Nirodhaka Vidhanagalu” (Methods of Contraception), authored by Dr Rati Devi on the occasion.
While CEO of ZP Dr N Vijayaprakash inaugurated the book exhibition at the premises on the occasion.
Deputy Director of district department of women and child development Shakuntala welcomed the gathering.
Sulochana G K Bhat, deputy mayor Amithakala,, former deputy mayor Geetha Nayak and B Nagaraj Shetty were also present.
At the same time Anganvadi workers staged protest demanding their rights outside the hall.
