Bangalore: After 15 years of regular cricket as a right hand batsman who has scored second highest runs in Test cricket (after Tendulkar) and holds a record of catches (210) either a slip fielder or as the wicket-keeper in need Rahul Dravid at 38 is saying good-bye to Test cricket which was the last he had saved after ODI and T-20 farewells.
But he is available in IPL-5 matches as a captain of one the 8 or 10 teams promoted by BCCI, as business of cricket in 20 overs with entrainment in the middle of the ground.
Rahul Dravid had earlier given up captaincy of Indian cricket, under traumatic Conditions but later was available as a player in Tests (5 day matches) and one Day) International games of 50 overs each for a long time, even when new blood was brought in, to rejuvenate Indian cricket.
Dravid, known as a Wall in cricket had his lean times apart from those days when he would rescue an Indian team from a certain defeat.
But in UK and Austalia in 2011-12 he suffered early eliminations, that led to Indian wash outs in England (5-0) and Australia (4-0).
While all things may come to an end, Dravid had been pursued till recently and found wanting hence he has Voluntarily said a farewell to competitive cricket, on March8, but not to IPL shows where money flows freely and results are immaterial in the national/world eyes.
