Ahmedabad : Even as the BJP has yet to recover from the embarrassment caused by the conduct of its MLAs in Karnataka in connection with the porngate, another similar scandal has hit the party, this time in Gujarat.
Two party MLAs Shankar Chaudhury and Jetha Bharwad were seen watching obscene clips inside the Gujarat Assembly on an iPad yesterday by a senior journalist, who was seated in the media gallery.
The Assembly was discussing budgetary support for the water resources department at the time of the incident.
Following the incident, the Speaker has ordered a probe by the privileges committee of the state Assembly.
Also, the tablet on which the alleged clips were played will be sent to the Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) in Ahmedabad for examination.
As per reports, the journalist informed the personal assistant of the Speaker, who in turn got the iPad removed from the House.
“Chaudhary showed his tab to another MLA Bharwad. First they started by watching the pictures of Swami Vivekananda, then cartoons and then pictures of women,” senior journalist Janak Dave claimed.
“I went to Speaker’s (Ganpat Parmar) chamber and complained about it to his PA, who informed the Speaker and the viewing was stopped,” Dave said.
The BJP, however, denied the charges. Party’s state unit general secretary Vijay Rupani said the allegations are false and cooked up on the instance of Congress.
“I believe that they were not watching such material on the tablet,” Rupani told reporters.
“However, if required we will inquire about the incident,” he further said.
The opposition Congress has latched on to the incident and has termed it ‘as yet another example of BJP’s true face’.
The state Assembly was today adjourned after Congress demanded dismissal of the two BJP MLAs.
All Congress MLAs, meanwhile, have been suspended for a day.
