Mangalore: Bribe can be demanded for anything in India, but should never be given? See what happened to Savitri, Konaje GP development officer(PDO) and secretary Abubaker, who were Caught red-handed by Lokayukta(LA)police on Wednesday, when they were accepting Rs3,000 from a woman(Sarika), who approached them to issue a new house door-number.

Every time the Woman had been turned away from the office,  on the pretext that her house was located on a ‘Kumki’ land. Sarika had applied for he door number 18 months ago, and was running from pillar to post.

She applied again a month back, as law had been relaxed. The Panchayat staff asked for Rs5,000 and later reduced the bribe to Rs3,000 but the Woman(Sarika) complained to LA police, who baited the GP staff members to put them in jail.

Savithri was a PDO for 3 years, and due for retirement, in 4 months hence. She was caught on the eve of retirement ,with her secretary Abubaker for collusion, in the forbidden act of bribery. LA team was led by SP, Jagamayanavar, Dy SP Sadanand Vernekar, and Inspector Umesh Shet, and had 2 constables.
