Mangalore: The New Mangalore Port Trust in fiscal year 2011-12, not only handled a high of 32.94 MT of cargo, but received 1136 ships at the NMP berths.
It handled coal, POL crude oil, edible oil, timber, granite and containers, NMPT Chief S. Tamilvanan stated on Tuesday here.
Dr. Tamilvanan also stated that the west coast Karnataka port had handled a record quantity of 2.07 million tones of Liquid Petroleum Gas in India. Out of 42.50 lakh tones traffic, a record 19:17 lakh tones came to NMPT, the past 2011-12 season, he pointed out.
The vacuum created by iron ore trade-hit badly, was matched and filled by coal and edible oils, he reported.
Construction of a POL berth No.13 at a cost of Rs80 crores was under progress by 50% done. Second cement terminal (Ambuja) was under way. There are 13 berths.
H.D.Pavement is ready and beach road is on repairs. Port revenue crossed Rs 500 cores for 5 successive years(2007-12).
10,620 cruiseships(17) travellers, were handled in 2011-12, Dr. Tamilvanan indicated.
