Mangalore: A group of rowdies pelted stones at the Christian devotees, who had gathered for Maundy Thursday prayers at St. Sebastian’s Church, near Bendorewell circle where a Waterpipe had snapped only last week.
The miscreants did not enter the church but threw stones from outside the compound of the church at a distance, on April 5 around 8-30 night. A large gathering was present in devout prayers at that time.
Claret Pinto(46) a local resident and worshipper, was hit on the head by a stone, and was taken to a hospital for immediate aid for bleeding.
Kadri police came on the scene and took control of the situation. Church premises were vacated only after the night prayers, while a few Christians kept guard at the night prayers, while a few Christians kept guard at the Church grounds where vehicles are parked by devotees.
Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes, who happened to be in city, arrived at the place with his wife Blossom, and visited the hospital nearby, to see injured claret in his compassion. No one is rounded up.
