Mangalore: On April15, the day after Ambedkar Jayanthi and prior to Puttur Car festivals, about 1.65 lakh children (babies) under 5 years will be administered fresh pulse polio drops all over DK to keep the discase away.
The massive work is undertaken in 921 select centres, according to DK dt., Health and Family Welfare deptt., that has conducted several such successful campaigns in the past led by DHO Dr. O. Srirangappa, who gave the information to media people on Thursday at his office.
The children of immigrant families (from N. Karnataka) are placed around 1430. It is a special task taken up this year to immunize children from migrant families, to protect them from polio incidence, he observed.
The public (families of local citizens) should bring their children on April 15th, to the immunization Centre nearest to their homes, to serve the drive against polio by pulse drops, he requested.
6 traveling teams and 21 transit pulse drops administering units were formed in this campaign. About 3800 volunteers and 190 supervisors trained in their jobs, are appointed to carry out the latest pulse polio programme, the DHO informed.
Previous campaigns have largely been successfully done, and there was a stop applied to this work a couple of years back, before reviving it in 2011.
