Mangalore: ASHA social health activists interacted with KSH charitable Hospital in a workshop related to safe motherhood and new-born babycare, held in coastal city here, on Saturday(April14).
Dr. Prasanna Shetty spoke on ante-natal care to about 140 ASHA Workers, on gynecology matters. Lack of blood was common among pregnant women in India with large families, the percentage of such anemia being as high as 60 to 80%.
This is because of deficiency of iron in body and blood, among rural women in their food.
A small loss of blood during delivery, could threaten the mother’s life. Iron tablets could cure such deficit and nutritive supplements could be added, if they are detected early in motherhood, as the baby feeds on the mother during her pregnancy.
Dr. Prasanna made another point, about ha healthy gap between the first child and the next. It is 3 years, to have a male child, if and advised on a definite schedule, which is the same for all children, even if one or two are born pre-maturely.
Dr. Arunachalam Kumar dean of KS Hegde Medical Academy, N. Vinay Hegde, Dr. Harish Shetty, and others also addresses the workshop inaugural Session.
