Mangalore: At an elder citizens ‘meeting held at Vishwas Trust, Valencia on Thursday (April 19), Deputy Commission Dr N.S. Channappa Gowda was present to hear the grievances of few of them. Santosh Kumar Kadri presided.
They felt that an old-age monthly pension of Rs400 only, was too meager in view of inflation, and added that no concessions are given to them while buying prescribed medicines by medical shops.
Some rich families in city had BPL ration cards while real poor persons were shown as “above poverty line” without explaining it, economically.
They also Complained that seats reserved for ‘Senior citizens’ in city buses are not given to them during travel but misused.
They wanted a reduction in the height of foot-boards in city buses, to enable aged people to climb into them.
The DC promised to set right things. Managing trustee S.K. Kadri, Celine Aranha and Ratna Pinto, both of Vishwas Trust, were present.
