Mangalore : The birth centenary celebrations of Barrister Attavar Yellappa will be organized from May 4 to May 6, said birth centenary committee General Secretary Suresh Kateel.
Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on April 30, Monday, he said Barrister Attavar Yellappa was the close associate of Netaji Subhashchandra Bose and was a forerunner in the creation of Azad Hind Bank, which was collecting donations for carrying out India’s freedom struggle in Hong Kong, Myanmar, Singapore and other countries.
He also said that the portrait of Barrister Attavar Yellappa will be unveiled at Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat School, Attavar on May 4, Friday at 10 am. Rathindranath, honourary president of School development committee will inaugurate the event in the ‘Colonel U Sunder Rao Auditorium’. Suresh Babu, president of Sarvajanika Srikrishna Jayanthotsava Committee, Attavar will preside over the event.
MCC Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar, Radhakrishna Bhat K, Head Master, DK District Panchayath High School and others will participate as the chief guest.
On May 5th, the Freedom Fighters will be felicitated at the ‘Ras Bihari Bose Auditorium’ at Town Hall at 5 pm. Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, Rastriya Swayam Sevak Sangh will inaugurate the event and Jayaprakash Hegde, Lok Sabha member, Udupi- Chickamagalur will preside over the function.
On the occasion, MB Puranik, member of State Religious Parishath will release the Biography of Barrister Attavar Yellappa. MLA UT Khader, Kumta MLA Dinakar Keshava Shetty, Mayor Gulzar Banu, Fisheries Department president Nithin Kumar, ZP president K T Shailaja Bhat, DC Dr N S Channappa Gowda, City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, ZP CEO Dr K N Vijayaprakash and others will be the chief guest on the occasion.
On May 6, Sunday, a procession will be carried out from Jyothi Circle to Nehru Maidan on the occasion. Chief Minister DV Sadananda will inaugurate the event to pay the tribute to the portrait of Barrister Attavar Yellappa at ‘Nethaji Subhash Chandra Bose Auditorium’. Justice Santhosh Hegde will preside over the event. Dr B M Hegde, retired vice chancellor of Mahe University will deliver the introductory speech and Union Corporate Affair Minister Dr M Veerappa Moily will release the sovereign.
The programme will be attended by Prof Jagmohan Singh (Bhagath Singh’s nephew), Subroth Bose (Netaji Subhashchandra Bose’s nephew), Adil Shah Nawaz and his wife Mahabin Shah Nawaz, Poornima Dhillon, Nethaji Research Foundation Chairman V P Saini, Forward Block’s Karnataka head Shivashankar and Capt Dr Laxmi Sehgal will take part in the centenary celebrations.
Vishwas Kumar Das, Yellappa’s nephew Prabhakar Das Attavar, Kadri Yogesh Bangera and K K Mendon were present.
