Mangalore : AICC President Oscar Fernandes on Saturday expressed unwillingness to be a candidate for the post of president of India.
Addressing reporters during a visit to the office of the District Congress Committee, which was the venue for a Congress workers’ meeting on May 5 Saturday, Mr. Fernandes said that he does not consider himself to be “a suitable candidate.”
Regarding the selection of candidates for the post of president, he said that the Congress high command will take the final decision as Prathiba Devi Singh Patel’s term is going to end on July 22.
Regarding the Centrally Empowered Committee report on B. S. Yeddyurappa, the former chief minister of Karnataka, Mr. Fernandes said that the centre will soon decide.
He also expressed confidence that Congress candidates will emerge victorious in the state legislative council elections.
Speaking about the issue of dumping mud in River Phalguni, he said that all development activities will cause discomfort for some people.
Mayor Gulzar Banu; Shashidhar Hegde, the former mayor; Suresh Ballal, the former MUDA chairman; MLA Abhayachandra Jain; MLA Ramanath Rai; MLA U. T. Khader; Ivan D’Souza, the KPCC secretary; Vijay Kumar Shetty, the former MLA; and many other Congress workers were present at the meeting.
