Mangalore : A ship, Cap Norte transporting chemicals from Malaysia, caught fire near Mangalore when it was on its way to Mumbai on May 5, Saturday.
The ship caused no much damage since the fire was speedily doused by Savithri Bai Phule, a Coast Guard ship at five nautical miles away from the Mangalore coast.
The ship boarded crew of 24 sailors. The message of distress was sent to the coast by the ship at 9:00 a.m.
Later the damaged ship fetched near New Mangalore Port.
