Mangalore : Tension prevailed in the area near the railway gate at Padil in Mangalore on the night of May 14, Monday when the public resorted to a lightning protest against the inordinate delay in opening the railway gate.
The gate had been closed at around 7.30 p.m for a train to pass by but was not opened until 7.50 even after the train passed by. As long queues of vehicle were seen on either side, people ran out of patience and began to protest.
They even demanded that the station master visited the spot and give an explanation. When the gate keeper arrived to open the gate, they tried to even assault him. A photojournalist who was capturing some photographs was also attacked and his camera damaged.
Reports said the angry mob also pelted stones at the gate keeper’s room and damaged its window panes and also damaged the railway gate.
Additional police force arrived and senior police officials too rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
