Mangalore : Superintendent of Police Dr. A. Subrahmanyeshwar Rao flagged off the Rickshaw Challenge Mumbai Express 2010, a 2000-kilometre international trekking event across India organized to raise funds for primary schools from Mallikatte Government School on Aug 5, Thursday.
The organizers of the challenge are Mangalore Round Table (MRT) 115 and Mangalore Ladies Club (MLC) 82. Vinod A. R. Pinto, the chairman of the MRT, Preethi Pinto, the chairperson of MLC, as well as all the members of MRT 115 and MLC 82 were present.
The challenge, which was launched at Chennai, reached Mangalore after passing through Vellore and Bangalore and will proceed to Murudeshwar, Panaji, Ratnagiri, Mahabaleshwar, Pune, Alibhag, and Mumbai. The participants hail from Ireland, Singapore, Holland, Canada, UK, South Africa, and USA. They comprise 11 teams of 2 members each and 2 teams of 3 members each with an auto rickshaw.
Aravind Bremanandam, the director of the event, said that the event has already generated USD 50k for Round Table India projects. He added that the event plans to raise funds for primary schools all over India so that they can get better infrastructure, health care, and educational aids.
