Belthangady :  An under construction power transmission tower of the UPCL thermal power plant has collapsed at Neriya on May 18, Friday. The tower is located at a place called Aniyoor  Beete.

No casualty has been reported as no one was present around when the tower collapsed. However, this incident has instilled a sense of fears among the locals.  Ashraf, Neriya GP chief and Rajan, GP member who visited the spot, suspect  that the poor quality of construction was responsible for the collapse of the tower. With   such towers located in  ten villages of the taluk, the latest incident has only created a sort of panic among the villagers where the towers are located.
Villagers also say that the weak foundation of the  tower  was the cause of its collapse.
