Mangalore: Shedde Friends of Moodushedde bagged the Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Trophy and walked home with a cash reward of Rs 3 lakhs, by defeating New Star Soorinje by 17 runs at the finals of the Halli Cricket II organized by Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple at Badaga Edapadavu, Mijar near Mangalore. The finals were played on May 20, Sunday.
The runner-up team bagged a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh. Sri Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, entrepreneur and Chief Organizer of the event and Yogish Shetty, former corporator, gave away the prizes to the winners.
In the finals, if Shedde Friends scored 123 runs for six wickets, New Star could score only 106 for the loss of nine wickets. A total of 80 teams took part in the tournament.
The third and fourth prizes went to Ajay Friends Punjottu and SVG Karkala respectively.
Namma Kudla Team of Mangalore was adjudged the Team with the Best Dress Code. Hanif of New Star, Soorinje, Ajmal of Ajay Friends, Punjottu, and Damu of Shedde Friends bagged the Best All Rounder, Best Batsman and Best Bowler prizes respectively.
The first two winners donated a sum of Rs 10,000 each towards the midday meals at the temple.
Harish Shetty, Jai Thakkar, Premalatha Shetty, Leelaksh Karkera, Ramesh Shetty, Manav Shetty, Naveen Hegde, Sanath Shetty and others were present on the occasion.
