Mangalore: Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt has urged the Chief Minister to intervene in the case of the arrest of five social activists including Vidya Dinker in Mangalore on the charges of obstructing the Deputy Commissioner from doing his duties.
Speaking to reporters in Koppal, the seer said he already spoke to the chief minister over phone on the issue. It may be recalled here that Vidya and four other social activists who had been to meet the DC over the Phalguni mud dumping issue and entered into an altercation with the DC who had failed to keep up his words to visit the mud dumped site at Kulur.
All the five arrested have been remanded to judicial custody till June 7.
Several including Hanumanth Kamath of Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike, Muneer Katipalla of District unit of DYFI, PB D’Sa, District President of PUCL, B Madhava, District Secretary of CPI and others have condemned the arrest.
