Panaji : MPs forgot party loyalties and backed the tormented Goan independent MP, Shantaram Naik, who expressed great concern over poisoned fruits and harmful vegetables contaminated by Chemicals such as Oxytacin and Calcium carbide injected into these eatables of everybody use. Naik explained that such fruits and vegetables affected by unwanted chemicals can damage human body and are obliviously dangerous but farmers and sellers may not be aware of the evil effects.
An enquiry commission will be set up and Indian Medical Reasearch Council and Indian Agricultural Council directors-general will undertake a serious study, the Central govt, assured Naik in Rajya Sabha on Thursday (Aug.5). Dinesh Trivedi of Health Ministry stated that all states and Union territories are empowered under law to take suitable steps of security in food. MPs demanded a ban on the two chemicals being used in agriculture, but Trivedi told them only if they were badly used, they brought harm.
