Mangalore : The Mulki police have been successful in busting the mystery behind the murder of Lalitha Poojarthi (75) of Kolache Kambla in Mulki on November 18, 2011. Police have arrested one Abdul Razak of Bellary and have seized valuables worth Rs 7.72 lakhs from him.
The deceased Lalitha was leading a solitary life and was found murdered on the next morning. It is learnt the assailant who had entered the house by dislodging roof tiles had tied down Lalitha Poojarthi, killed here and then escaped with her ornaments.
The Mangalore Police Commissioner had formed a separate police squad to nab the thieves after local women’s organizations had lodged a complaint following repeated thefts in the area.
The squad had during the course of investigation arrested Razak when the truth came out. It is learnt, he was involved in six theft cases and mostly targeted lone women in the night. It is learnt, he was once earlier trapped in a theft case 18 years ago.
The seized valuables include 250 grams gold jewellery, cash of Rs 41,240, copper vessels and water taps.
