Mangalore: A district level disaster Management Committee has been formed under the National Disaster Management Authority which will be assisted by all officials of the departments concerned. A detailed report regarding the information collected in this regard from the three coastal districts of DK, Uttara Kannada and Udupi will be submitted to the government within the next ten days, informed Amaranarayana, Principal Secretary of the State Revenue Department.
He was addressing a meeting convened at the DC office in Mangalore on June 7, Thursday to discuss the precautionary measures that need to be taken to avert monsoon related eventualities. He said the three districts will get a grant of Rs 36 crores under Disaster Management Scheme.
He also said that the deputy commissioner who is the chief of the District Disaster Management Authority would be the deciding factor on dealing with monsoon related eventualities like floods and he will also have the power to avail the services of various departments in dealing with the eventualities.
He also informed that a control room would operate 24 hours in case of natural calamity and added the government has released Rs 2 crore to each of the three districts under disaster management scheme.
On the sea erosion problem, he said efforts would be made to find permanent solution to the problem.
