Mangalore: The increasing number of road accidents reported from various parts of the city of late, have proved to be a matter of great concern.  When one delves deep into the issue, the one main reason that can be cited for the accidents is the haphazard parking of vehicles on several roadsides in Mangalore.

Recently, there had been an accident near Milagres Church and Shivabagh where two precious lives were lost. In both these cases, what is significant to note is that the accident has taken place when the motorists had tried to avoid the parked vehicles and could not realize the vehicles coming from the opposite direction.

This underlines the need to systematize parking arrangements for vehicles in Mangalore. In most of the cases the traffic police turn a blind eye to violation of parking rules and when vehicles are parked even on no-parking zones. Particularly, vehicles are parked on roadsides where some space is available and even on narrow roads, posing danger to lives of pedestrians as well as motorists alike.

There is a need for the traffic police to ensure proper parking rules in the city and help avoid accidents.
