Mangalore: Hundreds of BJP workers and several party leaders courted arrest as part of the Jail Bharo agitation organized by the party in various places in DK and Udupi districts on June 22, Friday, opposing the Union government policies and the soaring prices of essential commodities and fuel.
Addressing protestors in Mangalore, Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat said the Union Government was least bothered about the well being of the society as was evident from the steep hike in prices of various essentials. The government is doing injustice to the people, he alleged.
MLC Capt. Ganesh Karnik also addressed the agitators who blocked roads at Pumpwell Junction and other places and courted arrest.
A protest meet held at Udupi was addressed by Udupi District BJP Chief Udaykumar Shetty. He alleged that price hike was the most notable achievement of the UPA Government.
Protestors even prepared coffee on the road by lighting fire using firewood, keeping aside LPG cylinder, thereby making a mockery of the price hike. The coffee was also served to the gathering including the cops.
Local MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Tingale Vikramarjun Hegde, Shyamala Sunder and others took part in the agitation.
