Bantwal: In a tragic incident reported from Kesottu in Pilimogaru village in Bantwal, two labourers engaged in the vented dam works at Kesottu met a watery grave due to flash floods following heavy rains in the area on June 28, Thursday.

The labourers who lost their lives in the tragedy are Sumathi Shetty (42) and Shekhar Poojari (30). If the body of Shekhar Poojari was found, search is underway for Sumathi’s body.

The mishap is learnt to have taken place at the under construction site of the dam when Sumathi tried to cross the dam when there was a sudden rush of water and she was carried away. Shekhar who rushed to her aid too eventually met a watery grave.

In all nine workers were engaged in work at the construction site and were filling mud on either side of the dam. Shekhar Poojari has left behind his pregnant wife and a two year old son.

Senior police officials as well as Bantwal Tahsildar Anand Nayak, MLA Ramanatha Rai and other leaders visited the spot of the mishap.
